Press Release from Six Flags:
Six Flags AstroWorld and WaterWorld to Become One Park!
HOUSTON - February 8, 2002 - Six Flags AstroWorld begins the 2002 season by doubling its entertainment value. For the first time in the theme parks' history, Six Flags AstroWorld will join WaterWorld, the adjacent waterpark, to transform into a single, 100-acre theme/water park. Since WaterWorld's grand opening in 1983, the parks have operated separate front gates and required two separate admission tickets. By blending the two into a single park, Guests will now enjoy both parks for the price of an AstroWorld admission ticket or season pass and will enter and exit through the AstroWorld front gate.
Given the current state of the economy, Americans are seeking ways to stretch the dollar while at the same time exploring entertainment options close to home. "The blending of AstroWorld and WaterWorld provides our Guests an exceptional entertainment value. With Six Flags' one-of-a-kind thrills and convenient location, Guests will enjoy affordable family entertainment right in their own backyard," stated Chuck Hendrix, Six Flags AstroWorld Vice-President and General Manager.
Now Guests can experience AstroWorld's 32 breathtaking rides, innovative shows, and blockbuster concerts plus beat the summer heat on the wettest, wildest water slides and rides in Houston - all for the price of an AstroWorld admission ticket or season pass. Not only will Guests enjoy twice the excitement for a single price, but they will also find great family entertainment without having to travel far from home.
For the first time ever, the theme park is also offering Guests' exceptional value with a new type of season pass. In response to overwhelming consumer demand, Six Flags AstroWorld will introduce the Humongous season pass. This pass offers greater value than the traditional AstroWorld season pass by offering unlimited visits to Six Flags AstroWorld (including the WaterWorld section) and SplashTown waterpark in North Houston, plus Six Flags theme parks worldwide. The traditional AstroWorld season pass includes admission to other Six Flags theme parks, but not SplashTown. The Humongous season pass along with the AstroWorld season pass go on sale February 11 at Houston area Kroger and Fiesta Mart stores.
Six Flags AstroWorld's 2002 Season Grand Opening is Saturday, March 9, and the park will be open daily through March 17 for Spring Break. The WaterWorld section opens April 27. One-day admission tickets are $37.99 plus tax. Kids under 48" are $22.99 plus tax, and children two and under are free.
