Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Announces Electrifying News!
Thrilling Eighth Coaster To Be Added In 2003!
Louisville, KY - In Spring 2003, a new coaster will debut at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom... a coaster so electrifying, so exciting, that it could only be called Greezed Lightnin'.
Greezed Lightnin' will leave you breathless as you blast out of the coaster station like a bolt of lightning, going from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than six seconds. You won't have time to scream before you zoom through the 76-foot-tall loop, and are sent soaring up the 142-foot incline at a 70° angle. Just as you think the ride is over, the coaster plunges backwards down the incline and back through the loop in 35 seconds. You continue your exhilarating streak as you climb up the tail of the ride, before you glide safely back into the station.
The innovative catapult mechanism on Greezed Lightnin' is what propels the coaster from zero to 60 miles per hour, much like the catapulting action on aircraft carriers. "Greezed Lightnin' will amaze and thrill guests with its ability to blast riders out of the coaster station at such a high rate of speed", says Lee Graham, vice-president and general manager of Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. "This powerful coaster is sure to generate excitement among all coaster fans."
Greezed Lightnin' is a steel "shuttle loop" coaster that stands at 142 feet tall. It spans 583 feet across the ground, with 722 feet of track. The coaster has one train which consists of seven cars holding four persons each, for a total of 28 passengers per ride.
Built of 150 tons of steel, this coaster was designed by Schwartzkopf of Germany and is a first of its kind in this region. Greezed Lightnin' joins Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom's thrilling coaster lineup, increasing the park's coaster count to an impressive eight.
Greezed Lightnin' is expected to open to the public in Spring 2003. It will be located on the front side of the park, near the Road Runner Express roller coaster. Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom will open for the 2003 season on Saturday, April 5th.
